I’m a full-time, stay-at-home mom of three children, all under the age of 7 – our daughter, followed by two sons. Two years ago, both of our sons were diagnosed with autism.

Delay in learning how to speak, lack of facial expressions, and walking on tip-toes were specific issues we dealt with in handling our two boys. He lately underwent a spell and was not able to communicate. On top of that, he has several sensory issues. My husband and I began to fear that we were losing touch with him.

We sought advice from another couple in our parent group who had the same experience. We were then referred to Great Life Chiropractic in Costa Mesa, California.

Toby improved from being nonverbal to making “signing vocabulary” of around 12 words and he can now sleep through the night. Since many autistic children do not sleep through the night, we consider this as a major coup.

Along with weekly chiropractic treatments, Dr.McCowin encouraged us to look at making dietary changes. Our bookshelves are now filled with gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free cookbooks. After studying the nutritional supplements extensively and with the doctor’s advice, we have implemented them on the entire family’s diet aside from Toby’s diet and gained good results.

Our efforts have paid off in many ways. She inquired about the kinds of changes happened at home and informed us of the positive results she had seen. In fact, she pulled out a folder and showed us Toby’s recent class work in comparison to the work he was completing prior to beginning treatments. While many of the differences were subtle, they were definitely there and we were pleased with the results.
